Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC took on Five Ways Old Edwardians ladies this weekend in a closely fought contest at The Crofts.

Five Ways kicked off to Old Leams and the home team quickly set up camp in the opposition half. Old Leams kept up the pressure and were eventually able to break through, with outside centre Shannon Lynch diving for the line to take the score to 5-0.

Five Ways took the game straight back to Old Leams and were soon able to score directly under the posts. The conversion was prevented by Old Leams’ forward Tash Faulkner, who charged down the kick to ensure that the score stayed level.

It was then Old Leams’ turn to go on the attack, and the whole team played their part in getting in to the Five Ways 22 and fighting to get over the line. It was new girl Karis Dalziel who was eventually the one to score on the wing, getting her first Old Leams try in her first run out in blue and gold. This took Old Leams into half time 10-5 in the lead.

After the restart the wind picked up and unfortunately for Old Leams, so did Five Ways. They were able to get the ball wide to their winger who scored to draw level once again.

Old Leams kept fighting, and were very unlucky when a kick from number 10 Jamielee McCreadie was caught by the wind and trickled just over the dead ball line. However, the home team just couldn’t score again, and eventually Five Ways broke through once again, this time on the other wing. The subsequent conversion put them on 17 points, securing their victory 17-10.
