Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC made a promising start to the new rugby season this weekend, despite losing 37-7 in a friendly against Moseley.

The OLs women travelled to Birmingham on Sunday with a squad of 20 to pit themselves against opposition from the league above. Some of girls had been with the team for years, some were seasoned pros but new to OLs, and some were completely new to the game and playing in their first ever match.

OLs got off to a slightly shaky start, with Moseley scoring shortly after the kick off. However, the girls kept positive and kept working hard, even when number 8 Milly Carter was stretchered off with an ankle injury. Although Moseley ran in a few more tries before the break, Old Leams improved as the match went on and grew in confidence.

After half time, Old Leams were able to pull a try back. Although it was centre Tasha Barnes who put the ball over the line, the whole team played their part, and the try was converted by new number 10 Lois Moulding. After a couple more tries for Moseley it was game over, and Old Leams headed for home, with lots to work on but feeling optimistic about the season ahead.

If you'd like to be part of Old Leams we'd love to see you at training. The ladies train Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.30, and whether you’re a veteran of the game or a complete beginner, we'd love to have you join us. Find us on Facebook or twitter, or email
