Just three matches survived the weather in the McDonald’s Worcester & District Football League over the weekend with waterlogged pitches causing the majority of the postponements.

In the games that were played Powick Reserves won 6-1 at Hangover in Division 3. Sean Smith cracked a hat-trick for Powick with Oliver Roberts, Tom Yardley and Simon Mole also on the score sheet.

In Division 5, The Bell @ Pensax Reserves enhanced their promotion prospects with a 4-2 home win over Hallow Reserves, Dan Westwood )2), Max Young and Luke O’ Sullivan were on target for The Bell with Adam Marsh and Ryan Mapp replying for Hallow.

AFC Kempsey moved up a couple of places in Division One, goals from Steve Aston and George Cound giving them a 2-0 victory against New AFC Barbourne.

Meanwhile the League have announced the format for the Saturday Division Cups this season. The top five clubs at the end of the year ( Powick, WCT Raiders, Arrow 2000, Univeristy of Worcester and Malvern Town Reserves), will play for the Baylis Cup. The remaining five teams ( VBL Sports, Foregate, Malvern Hills, Worcester Anchors and Malvern Vale), will contest the Phipps Cup. Matches will be played on a round robin basis with the top two in each competition meeting again in the final, one to be played at Malvern Town and the other at Pershore Town on dates to be arranged.

Several Worcester League clubs will be looking for further success in the various Worcestershire Football Association County Cup competitions in the New Year. In the Saturday Minor Cup quarter- finals, Powick are at home to Badsey United whilst WCT Raiders entertain Tenbury United. WCT have also reached the Sunday Premier Cup semi-finals where their opponents are Grange Athletic. The League has two representatives in the Sunday Junior Cup quarter-finals – AFC Kempsey travel to CBH Fasteners whilst The Bell @ Pensax host Areley Kings. Five teams have reached the last sixteen of the Sunday Minor Cup. Last season’s beaten finalists Brewers Athletic travel to Ferndale whilst Hangover have a home tie against Waggon & Horses. WCT Youth Raiders entertain Lionfields  and Foresters Arms are also at home, to Toby Jug Athletic. Finally, Drakes Broughton Rangers have to make the trip to Lickey End Social.
