On a scorchingly hot afternoon Bidford were put into the field and it wasn't long before the Rowington openers Matt Page and Alex Smith found their stride putting on 31 before Page pulled a rather high full toss ( no ball in most games) to deep square leg and he was gone for 11 off Layton.
In came skipper Scott Rogers and he and Smith pushed on to 93 but it was hard work against the Bids spinning attack and Smith then got trapped LBW for an industrious 38 off Nason.
Tom Jefferson helped Rogers get past the ton but went for 6 bowled by Wills, then with the score on 115 Rogers (44) lost the battle of Wills and was bowled by him, this Kiwi is making a difference.
Sam Turrell aided by Eike Gilbert get the score to 119 before Turrell gets caught trying to push the score off the returning Layton for 7.
Ben Skilling comes in and takes on the bowlers to great effect hitting boundaries and pushing singles into twos with Gilbert as they reach 137 when Gilbert (12) is caught off....you've guessed it ....Wills!
Skillings continues on with young Joe Kelly helping him and they get to 163 when Skillings (24) gets stumped going for a big one, Joe Turrell comes in and launches the first ball towards the cow corner boundary but guess who's under it?...Yes its Wills and off trudges Turrell for a goldie!
Clive Haywood (0no) joins Kelly (9no) and they add 4 more to the total and the R's finish 167 - 8.
A good 50 short of the required target.

Layton 1 - 16
Gretton 2 - 43
Nason 1 - 26
Wills 3 - 39
The Bids wicket takers.

After a leisurely tea the R's take to the field and with not a cloud in the sky opener Steve Jay finds it hard to get any swing as that man Wills takes advantage of any slightly bad balls, Jay doesn't last long and Joe Turrell replaces him, his brother Sam is trying his best to contain the Bids openers but its hard work in the heat and they put on 115 when Edkins finally gets bowled by EikeGilbert for 30, not many in a stand of 115!
Nason comes in and although he helps Wills get to 129 its only a supporting act as he goes for 1 caught by Joe and bowled by Sam Turrell.
Gretton joins the one man party and doesn't do much as he gets out LBW to Rogers for a duck.
Its 130 - 3.
Dipple is a slightly better aide to Wills and he helps him get to 147 when Sam Turrell bowls him for 10.
Layton comes in and with Wills help they get to the target with 11 overs to spare, Layton 7no and Wills a good 97no....just short of his ton!
Always was going to be a tough game its amazing what a recruitment campaign overseas can do to a team.....making an ordinary team very good, but what happens if he's not there next year?
The R's can take some things from the game, the youngsters are all performing well, Skillingscoming up took to it like a duck to water and the old experienced few still have some years left in them yet!
Local derby next week against Norton and although there are a few out there are also a few back!!!
