No more draws in the two-team section as the 2nd round of Win/lose games start next week for Divisions 1-4. Congratulations to Evesham and Redditch, champions of Divisions 8&9. The business end of the season is upon us, watch out as sparks fly!

In Division One 1st XIs, Worcester maintained their grip and 57 points lead with an emphatic 7 wickets win over previously 4th placed Pedmore thanks to 104 from overseas player, Russell Pitchers. Pershore stay 2nd following a comfortable 24 points win at home to Redditch and they also had their overseas player, Ullrich Boshoff to thank for his second and highest century in the league for the season.

Worcester Nomads stayed 3rd behind Pershore as they beat Droitwich by 97 runs with a debut century from David White and after Pedmore’s defeat, Colwall have regained 4th spot by beating Evesham but they are 18 points adrift of Nomads, themselves 17 behind Pershore.

Hagley are in 5th after an exciting winning draw at Bromyard where the home side finished 3 short with 2 wickets left at the end of the 100th over. Pedmore are now 6th and Belbroughton’s win over Harvington which included 8-15 from Jamie Woodhouse, cements their 7th place 37 points ahead of the bottom five.

Indeed, Bromyard’s 9 points closed the gap and at the bottom and were the same as their fellow strugglers, Droitwich, Redditch, Harvington and Evesham got put together and it is beginning to look perilous for all these sides as they fight to survive.

Next weekend is surely the cruncher as Pershore first receive Nomads and then on Bank Holiday Monday travel to Worcester. However, after Saturday the bottom of the table could become a bit clearer as Redditch play host to Worcester, who will go the entire year without a draw and Droitwich go to Evesham whilst Bromyard must make the long trip to Harvington. Only 27 points cover these five sides with 5 games left.

Division Two 1st XIs – Burghill became the first league team to reach 300 points with a win at home to Cookley and they are 47 points in front of Bewdley who beat Lye and are themselves 32 in front of Oldswinford who beat Rushwick who remain bottom despite Malvern being bundled out for 44 at Wormelow.

Worcester Dominies stay just 3 behind Oldswinford by beating Enville thanks to95 from Jon Hancock and in the final match, Coombs Wood beat Feckenham with 80 not out and 4-39 by Carl Whyte.

Division Three 1st XIs – leaders won at Alvechurch and second placed Bredon could only draw at Tenbury which means they trail the Birmingham outfit by24 points who they meet in two weeks’ time, after the Bank Holiday weekend. Stourport stay third with another century for Spencer Colley and six wickets for Lee Waldron at home to 4th placed Netherton who now stand 31 points back from Stourport as a result.

Cleobury Mortimer beat Avoncroft, Ross had a winning draw at Old Vigornians and Chaddesley leapfrogged Alveley to escape the bottom two positions.

Division Four 1st XIs – Bartestree and Lugwardine lost at 3rd placed Claverley thanks to Asif Iqbal’s 102 for the home side and despite Matt Ashcroft’s heroic 7-63 for the visitors. They still lead the table by 37 points from Himbleton who beat Oldswinford, Jon Critchlow taking 6-22 and seem to have played all the top sides.

Kidderminster are just 4 behind Claverley and 10 behind Himbleton after a win at Romsley and play at Himbleton in two weeks’ time. Bromsgrove had a winning draw at home to Halesowen and Martley beat Himley with 6-16 from Pete Gardiner but in 6th come Fiveways OEs who beat Old Hill thanks to 110 scored by James Hamilton.

Division Five 1st XIs after Barnards Green beat Kempsey last week to close the gap to 3 points with 3 games left, it was business as usual for Kempsey who thrashed 8th placed Barnt Green and for Barnards Green who beat Old Elizabethans away.

Hanley are a staggering 65 points behind in 3rd despite a win over Hallow and remain the only serious obstacle to Kempsey who they play on Saturday 30th August.

In yesterday’s other games, Astwood Bank beat Stourbridge and Stourport beat West Malvern to go 4th and 5th respectively with a 40 points gap before Stourbridge in 6th.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 2nd XIs, Division one leaders Colwall were unable to force a win at Evesham despite giving themselves five additional overs. In the end, Evesham achieved a brave losing draw that was only 8 runs short of a dramatic victory.

As a result of Colwall’s slight slip up, Stourport who beat Pedmore and Nomads who beat Droitwich have now both closed to just 9 points back in joint second place. Next, 18 points behind come Hagley who lost at home to Bewdley for whom Connor Franklin made 106 not out and Redditch have climbed to 5th spot with a resounding win over Rushwick which included 98 from veteran Geoff Eley.

Elsewhere, Belbroughton beat Cookley and climb out of the bottom three.

In Division two, the top two Enville and Netherton both grabbed 24 points at the expense of Dominies and Worcester respectively. So Enville still lead by 3 and Netherton have a 15 point advantage above Pershore who were frustrated by the last wicket pair at Oldswinford. Next come Bromyard, 3 points behind Pershore, despite being bundled out for just 52 by Lye courtesy of Andy Meacham who took 8-25.

In other games, Harborne beat Alvechurch and Feckenham beat Coombs Wood.

Division three 2nd XI leaders Burghill are now 40 in front after they won at Harvington by 4 wickets despite Mark Owens scoring 108 for the home side. Bartestree lost at home to Claverley so Bredon took over in second after Romsley conceded their match and so are now 14 points in front of Bartestree.

In other games, Malvern beat Wormelow, Alveley beat Chaddesley and the final match between Himley and Avoncroft was an away win thanks to 101 not out from Steve Evans of Avoncroft.

Division four 2nds leaders Bromsgrove had their match conceded to them so Martley in second could make no headway despite beating Cleobury. Ovs are in 3rd after winning at Ross on Wye in a very one sided contest. Five ways beat Old Hill, who they dismissed for just 40 and there were draws between Himbleton nd Oldswinford as well as Kidderminster and Tenbury who ended 5 wickets down and just 13 runs away from a season’s first victory.

Division five 2nds – Barnards Green and Stourport stay top after they beat OEs and West Malvern respectively. Barnards Green are 9 points in front and Stourport are now 57 ahead of Stourbridge. For Stourport, Mark Dearlove scored 90 not out and Andy Goddard 78, also not out.

Stourbridge and Astwood Bank recorded a tied match with Bank’s James Watson making 99 after Chris Colesby scored 86 for Stourbridge. In the other matches, Hallow improved 2 places to 7th by beating Hanley Castle and Brant Green have closed up on in Kempsey, who are 8th, by defeating them by 2 wickets. All that means that OEs have slipped to the bottom with 2 games left which for them are against Brant Green and Hallow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Division six, Canon Frome still head Birlingham by 11 as they saw off 4th placed Omberley thanks to 103 scored by James Fortnam in their innings of 245-5, and then 7-23 from Ben Child as the visitors were dismissed for 104.

Birlingham won at 3rd paced Cutnall Green but by a smaller margin, Harborne had their match conceded by Rushwick whilst bottom two Droitwich and Stone were losing at Highley and Netherton respectively.

Division seven is still close after Nomads beat Coombs Wood thanks to 6-23 from skipper Nigel Dexter and they lead Hagley by 8 points after the men from The Hall beat Pedmore and Enville beat Worcester on their own turf thanks to 97 not out scored by Cameron Barry-Cooper.

Worcester have dropped to 4th 8 behind Enville with Pershore i5th after losing at Redditch but anyone from the top 4 could still win out.

Division eight leaders Evesham got the one point they needed to be certain of the title but in fact they only got two as they were thrashed by Kidderminster who were recording their only victory of the season. So Bewdley who gained a maximum 24 points win at Colwall were just 2 points back in 2nd place and 23 ahead of yesterday’s hosts. Bromyard pipped Cookley to 4th after the latter conceded to them and the final match was won by Harborne who beat the bottom side Dominies.

Division nine leaders Redditch were indeed conceded to and won the title which they did by 32 points and totalled 221 points but won just 44 of those in the two matches they actually played after 5 abandonments and 7 concessions.

Enville are runners up despite losing to third placed Fiveways in their first season and Bredon beat Feckenham to claim 4th spot.
