Wellesbourne ladies held the 7th ladies touch tournament of the season on Sunday at The Home Guard Club, Tiddington.    Nine teams from the North Midlands ladies touch league attended and played some outstanding rugby.

Wellesbourne started their campaign with a loss to league leaders Bromyard however were the only team to score a try against them with a much deserved try for captain Claire Davis.  The girls then raised their game with a 3 – 0  win over Sutton Coldfield.     The girls dominated Sutton  in attack and held a very solid defence.  Becci Anstey, Jo Cooper and Lorna Wale breaking through Sutton’s defence to secure a convincing win.

Wellesbourne then went on to win 4 – 2 against Greyhounds with a 2 tries apiece for vice-captain Lorna Wale and   Catriona Rollason.  A rather physical match followed with Wellesbourne pipping Camp Hill to the post 1-0 with Claire Davis scoring the only try.

Through to the play offs Wellesbourne came up against Pershore.  Both teams being fairly evenly matched the game was hard fought and eventually won by Pershore 1-0 in extra time.   To complete the day Wellesbourne played off for 3rd and 4th position with Stratford on Avon and took 3rd place with a 2-0 win.  Tries on this occasion from Captain Claire Davis and Vice-captain Lorna Wale.

Wellesbourne ladies would like to thank the referees and all the helpers for their hard work on the day and   our sponsors Lodders solicitors, Thatchers Gold cider, Marstons brewery and Shah’s indian restaurant for all their support this season.

Mixed touch training is held at the Home Guard Club on Monday evenings at 7.30pm and ladies touch training is Thursday at 7pm.  Men’s contact training is Wednesday evening at 7pm, everyone welcome, just turn up and get involved.    The girls next travel to Cannock on 5th October for the penultimate tournament of the season.
