Pinley were in no mood to sit back and see what the Lions could throw at them, from the off they took the game Midlands 5 outfit.

The intensity of the opening 15 mins was to much for the Lions who struggled with the pace of the game but defended well. Pinley turned over ball in the loose and dominated the set piece winning opposition ball in the line out and scrummage. A Lions indiscretion gave Pinley the first Penalty attempt which Andy Taylor gratefully accepted from 40metres. Turnover ball then put Pinley again on the front foot and quick hands through the backs saw Wing Steve Hodson Jnr on the overlap sprint in from 40 Mtrs for the first try of the game unconverted.

As the pace settled the Lions gained momentum and following a sweeping move their left Wing showed scorching pace to round the Pinley defence and score in the corner for the Lions first Try unconverted.

Half Time Pinley 8 Lions 5

Pinley started the second half as they did the first with Livewire scrum half Lee Cosgroves sniping runs causing the Lions defence problems all evening, it was inevitable that eventually a gap would appear and when it did Cosgrove jinked his way over for Pinley's second try converted by Taylor.

Now in the ascendancy Pinley's pack drove lions off their own ball at a 10 Mtrs scrum, no8 Gary Brewerton picking up and feeding Centre Wayne Lester at full pace to crash over next to the posts with Taylor converting. More pressure in the lions half saw veteran flanker Mickey Moore burst clear and spinning the ball wide found Wing Hodson who took the opportunity to sprint in for his second try converted by Taylor.

But Lions would not lie down and Pinley were left defending for the final 15 mins and plagued by 2 yellow cards for their back row for technical offences Lions helped themselves to a Penalty, and when a harmless looking upfield kick was spilled by Pinley the chasing Winger kicked ahead and won the chase to score under the posts to close the game with a consolation converted try.
