Rain Rain Rain Rain and yet more RAIN dominates the first week of 2016's proceedings in the BDFL.
However we somehow managed to get ONE game played and that was a Division 1 clash between mid-table Bromsgrove United and floundering pre-season title favourites Wychbold RBL; Anyone who managed to get to the game (and they were probably hiding in the trees on the far side anyway), was treated to a 14 goal thriller which Wychbold got the better of by an astonishing 8-6 scoreline, a result which propels them into 8th place (up 3 places) and leaves Bromsgrove stranded in 5th when they are looking to press higher.
Bromsgrove raced into a 2 goal lead inside 20 minutes with the second goal being a stunning volley from the edge of the area. Wychbold on the admittance of their own manager Alex Riordan, would normally fold in situations like this but today was different as it became the Josh Weatherby show as he went onto net FIVE goals, despite the manaagement being amazed he turned up with it being so cold! The deficit was initially reduced from the penalty spot after Weatherby was sent flying in the area by the Bromsgrove keeper having lifted the ball over him, who was perhaps lucky not to be sent off or cautioned. By half-time, Wychbold had got their noses in front to lead 4-2 as Bromsgrove's defence collapsed.
Into the second half and Wychbold assumed control of the match with the scoreline eventually getting to 8-6 after goalscoring mayhem at both ends; Weatherby completed his goalscoring haul whilst there were further goals for Cieran Sheehan, Julian Triana and Josh Somers, the latter being a fine curling effort. Wychbold will be disappointed to not have reached double figures as they missed a series of one on ones most notably Sheehan whose effort is probably still going past NASA Space Station now! For Bromsgrove, the goals came from Damian Blakeway (2), Brad Bullimore, James Halsall, Michael Harvey and Ashley Woodfield once again highlighting their ability to score from all positions of the pitch at any given time they chose - Their goals against column will be a concern though.
Congratulations to Suki from Bromsgrove United for getting the pich prepped to host the match in what has been a week of simply unreal weather and credit should be given to both sides for getting on with it to play out such an entertaining game. The match officials in the game also received praise from both sides as conditions were truly awful and some of the worst officials from both clubs had ever been involved with.
We can only hope an improvement from the skies is on the cards shortly or our clubs are going to be very busy in the midweeks of April and May!

Bromsgrove United 6 (Blakeway 2, Harvey, Woodfield, Halsall, Bullimore), Wychbold RBL 8 (WEATHERBY 5, Sheehan, Triana, Somers)
