Unfortunately, another weekend brought another washout for Sutton 1st XV, when the heavy overnight rain on Friday fell on pitches already sodden from the recent rain and as a result all the pitches at the Roger Smoldon Ground, Walmley Road were waterlogged and unplayable.

With [censored] water on the ground and a soft surface underfoot the conditions prevented the use of tractors or machinery to hasten the recovery, leaving the ground staff powerless to make the ground playable last Saturday afternoon for the scheduled top of the table league clash with Nuneaton, who currently sit second in the league whilst Sutton are still in contention in fourth place leading fifth place Hinckley by 9 points with a game in hand.

The Nuneaton league fixture has been rescheduled for 22nd Feb 2014 at Walmley Road, KO 2.15pm... but in the meantime this weekend, Sutton travel to third place Old Halesonians for another testing encounter and any sort of victory would see Sutton leapfrog Old Hales to move them into third place, with both teams having played 18 games and Sutton only 2 points behind their opponents going into the must win game.

Unfortunately, the need to reschedule the Nuneaton league fixture means Sutton's Warwickshire Cup semi-final against close neighbours Spartans, which was postponed by Warwickshire the previous weekend, will have to be rescheduled as league fixtures take precedence over Cup games. So both clubs now await the Warwickshire Competitions Committee's decision on a new date as well as the venue, which hopefully will be local to the Sutton Coldfield area for the convenience of both sets of supporters, who are looking forward eagerly to this local derby with a place in the Warwickshire Cup Final against Broadstreet at stake.

The Sutton second string, in the form of this season's development side also went without a game last weekend as their Warwickshire 2nd Team Cup semi-final fixture against Kenilworth to be played at the RSG, Walmley Road last Sunday also fell foul of the weather and will have to be rescheduled.

With two games lost, due to the extreme weather, over the last two weekends, the Sutton players and coaches plus supporters are understandably restless and are eager to see some action, so fingers crossed that the weather improves and the games this weekend can go ahead as planned!!
