Richmond keep the winning streak going, making it five wins from five so far this season. This time victory came against Lichfield. Their bonus point win, 34-14, secures their place alongside Saracens at the top of the table.

From the kick off,  the two teams appear to be on equal footing, with neither making any significant ground. Several times Richmond reached Litchfield’s twenty-two, but never remained for long enough to get some points on the board. After fifteen minutes however, the forwards dominate a scrum near the try line, and Emma Croker scores the first try of the match. 5-0

Litchfield immediately claim their revenge, through their full-back Sarah Nicholas, who kicks a penalty for three points. 5-3

Richmond almost score again, following some impressive back moves and a run down the wing from Holly Myers, but are called back for a scrum. For a while they battle to get passed Litchfield’s twenty-two, but a series of pick-and-goes eventually result in a try from Chloe Edwards. 10-3

Ten minutes later, just before half time, Sarah Nicholas kicks another penalty, decreasing Richmond’s lead. 10-6

The new half brings several strong runs, including one each from back row Anna Caplice and centre Alicia McComish, and several from Litchfield’s backs. Richmond give away another penalty in front of the posts, and Nicholas kicks it again, reducing Richmond’s lead to just one point. 10-9

Ten minutes later, Litchfield score their first try, overtaking Richmond, and displaying audible excitement. Despite some impressive kicks already, Litchfield’s fullback Nicholas fails to convert, with the ball bouncing off the posts, bringing the score to 10-14.

It doesn’t take long for Richmond to retaliate. Fiona Fletcher takes an excellent lineout ball, and lets the forwards drive her past the try line, where she touches down to put Richmond in front again, 15-14.

Five minutes later, a penalty to Richmond results in another successful lineout. This time Vik Cornborough scores, by ripping the ball away from the pack, and darting over the line. Abi Chamberlin converts, allowing Richmond to relax a little, as they see their lead increase. 22-14

Richmond began to take control of the game in the final quarter and set piece created a great attacking platform.  The next try came from a lineout again, from which the backs ship away clean ball, creating a maul on the other side of the pitch. Laura Kapo scores, and Abi Chamberlin converts to extend the lead 29-14.

McComish had the final say of the match, scoring a try just before the final whistle, earning Richmond yet another bonus point win. The final score stood at 34-14.

Fiona Fletcher and Alicia McComish were awarded with the forward and back of the match respectively.

Next week Richmond play Saracens away, in what promises to be an enthralling and competitive match, between the two teams currently positioned at the top of the table.
