The SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at Arena UK in Lincolnshire proved to be immensely popular with competitors with eighty-four combinations starting out over the track.

With just two qualifying places available for the Championship to be held at the Longines Royal International Horse Show during 28th July – 2nd August 2015, each competitor was riding with the aim of delivering a double clear as they knew that would put them in with a chance of securing a coveted qualification spot.

Nearly two thirds of the starters put in a first round clear to progress into the jump off. Thirteen of the twenty-five combinations in the jump off then went on to jump a double clear. Following a well fought jump off, less than a second separated the top four combinations and with just those two qualifying places available, the clock was to become crucial in deciding the final line-up.

The fastest double clear of the class came from 16 year-old Olivia Poole from Shrewsbury, Shropshire on her mother Michelle’s 8 year-old bright bay mare Chinook BH. Drawn halfway to go in the jump off, the combination set the standard after clocking up their double clear in 30.66 seconds, a result which was to prove unbeatable.

Second place went to Chantelle Duggan, aged 20, from Nottingley, West Yorkshire and she produced a double clear on board her mother Margaret’s 9 year-old grey mare Portphilip Queen. This combination produced their double clear in 30.73 seconds and this was quick enough to secure them a qualification place for the Championship Final.
