OUNDLE reached their first NatWest Schools Cup Under 18s semi-final helped by the support of the school band amid a big crowd.

The Northamptonshire school responded by making a quick start which helped them to a 21-12 success over Lymm HS.

Oundle led 18-0 at one stage thanks to tries from Toby Warner and Tom Curry backed up by the goal kicking of Angus McRae.

Though Lymm fought back, grabbing tries by Rob Makin and Mark Dixon, a late penalty from McRae eased home nerves.

Oundle will face Midland rivals Bromsgrove in the semi-final at Saracens’ Allianz Park on March 7.

Bromsgrove also reached a first senior semi-final by defeating Dauntsey’s, from Devizes in Wiltshire, 44-12.

Dauntsey’s led 17-15 at the break only to be swept aside by Bromsgrove who collected six tries in all, two from hooker Henry Walker and centre Jase Edwards plus one each from fly half Lee White and flanker Harry Lloyd-Jones.

The tightest quarter-final of the three played this week saw champions Dulwich topple Hampton 8-7.

Dulwich kept on course for a fourth successive final appearance only through a late drop goal from Jonny Waugh.

The fly half landed the kick from the left-hand side of the Hampton 22 to settle another outstanding match between old rivals.

Hampton had led 7-5 thanks to a penalty try which cancelled out an effort from Omar Malik for Dulwich who have won three finals in a row.

There was plenty of drama in the Under 18 Vase quarter-finals as well. Another last-gasp effort propelled King Edward VI, Aston, to a 12-10 win over West Buckland from Devon.

A try by wing Warren Davis after sustained pressure settled the contest following an early score from No 8 Alex Bennett.

The Birmingham school will face Churcher’s College from Petersfield for a place in the final. The Hampshire team defeated Cheadle Hulme 25-21, captain Seb Herold kicking 20 points.

In the other Vase semi-final, Stockport GS, who beat Welbeck Defence 6th Form College, 32-15, will meet Seevic College, from Benfleet in Essex, who overcame St George’s of Weybridge, 30-19.

Tom Travis contributed two tries in the Stockport while Seevic had No 8 Chris Shields contributing a brace as well.
