Nine games scheduled for the mid-festive period fixture list, but this was reduced to 6 as games at Baytree Farm and Highgate United fell to waterlogging on Saturday with the groundsmen pulling the blinds down, with Rubery Park being the victim of the first seasonal frost this morning.

The WA Harris Cup action today provided a couple of interesting results. Premier side Golden Lion Athletic safely navigated a very tricky tie at home to one of Division 3's impressive sides Toby Jug Athletic, by winning 7-2. Marcus William Allbutt with a hat-trick leading the way, with Ellis Blakemore, Simon White, Brett Griffin and Sam Partridge also on target. It's been a miserable xmas for Jug after their surprise draw last week. A special mention to new league referee Darren Amor who sensibly delayed the kick off to allow extra time for the pitch condition to improve and ensure a game was ticked off. GLA will now face fellow Charford based side Sporting Grapevine in the quarter-final. Division 1 AFC Northfield also had a successful morning, with a fine 3-1 victory over Premier Division Meadow Park. Sam Chilton (12 yard drive), Mickey Stewart (25 yard drive) and Matt Carter (tap in) led the way to put the hosts 3 up inside 35 minutes, Dan Farley replying for the visitors who were possibly shell shocked by the surroundings and the small pitch compared to the complete opposite at Stadia Brush. AFC Northfield await a date with either Victoria Barnt Green or Rubery Social Allstars who (hopefully) play their second round game next Sunday.

In Division 1, a large crowd assembled at Studley 3G to see part two of the Hare and Hounds v Rubery Athletic showdown and the hosts ran out 3-1 winners in what was a fairly contested, good spirited game between two decent sides and well officiated too. Lee Dunkley opened the scoring for Hounds with a penalty before Luke Dugmore's fine free kick made it 2-0. A host of chances were then missed by the Hounds to put the game out of sight. Athletic were back in it through a fine breakaway goal (Scorer unknown), but debutant Lee Raji made the game safe with a third. AFC Northfield have 4 games in hand on Hounds who are now 11 out of 11 in the league, but even at this stage of the season, it's hard to see past the Hounds being dislodged from the top position although it must be noted 4 out of their last 5 games are away from home.

In Division 2 action, Andy Reeves led the way with 4 goals in Washford Lions's 6-4 win over mid-table Studley Road Social which thrilled the neutrals watching at Silver Street (Washford move up to 4th), whilst leaders North Colts United somewhat stumbled to a 3-2 win over Callowbrook Swifts, who continue to run certain sides close but are just unable to pick up positive results, let's hope their luck turns soon. North Colts remain top though and extend their lead over bitter rivals FC Rednal who were without a game today.

And lastly one game in Division 3, AFC Millfields finally returned 'home' after a long period of away games and these home comforts saw them secure a battling 3-1 win over AFC Northfield Reserves. Neil Dews's brace (his first goals for the club) and an Ethan King goal were enough to win the game, with Bren Bartlett particularly influential in the absence of 'superstars' Courtney Lloyd and Ben Craddock. Michael Fuller Chaffatt on target for AFCNR who really need to cut out the arguing evident within the team, as they have the basis of a good setup.

We hope all of our readers had a very Merry Xmas and we also wish you a Happy New Year; All we need now is for some good weather for the next 7 days so we can get the fixture list played next week when many teams return from their Xmas break - It'll certainly be interesting to see from results who was careful with the Xmas turkey and the Xmas alcohol!
