Droitwich travelled to Sutton Coldfield on Saturday to take on Spartans in an attempt to claim their first league victory, but unfortunately were outplayed going down 43 points to thirteen.

The Spa side will take heart from some of the individual performances but were 2nd best all afternoon and must improve if they are to compete in this league.

Outside half Bobby Scott-Walker opened the scoring for the visitors before the home pack took control constantly punching holes in the Droitwich defence to cross the line three times before Scott-Walker slotted another penalty making the half time score 23 points to six.

The second period began in much the same vein as Spartans scored another try as the visitors tackling let them down badly. Droitwich then re-grouped as the introduction of player / coach James Thomas in to the front row appeared to energise the Spa pack and, after a series of scrums on the Spartans line, were awarded a penalty try. This was really the only bright spark for Droitwich as Rob Poke, Chris Oliver and Joey Roberts stuck to the talk manfully it was always going to be very hard work. Spartans finished the game with two more tries to run out easy winners.

It is back to the drawing board for the Spa side as they need to learn to not only keep possession but need to make life more difficult for the opposition when they have the ball. There will be no lack of effort from the young side in coming weeks as they aim to lift themselves from the foot of the league table.
