Old Leamingtonians Ladies kickstarted their 2014 with a spectacular 59-0 victory against Hucclecote Ladies, playing at home on Sunday 19 January.

The standard was set by flanker Allison Condell who scored within the first few minutes of the game, closely followed by star centre Yoli Sempere Padilla. Both were converted by champion kicker Danni Benge, playing for the first time since a broken thumb in October. Left winger Liz Kennedy made another break. Front row Lydia Furse scored her first try when playing as a forward. Scrumhalf Ruth Flory, on loan from the Warwick University Women’s Rugby team, scored the final try of the first half, making the half time score 33-0.

Hucclecote, playing for pride, upped their game in the second half with aggressive defence, but right winger Tami Summers broke the line with a try between the posts. Flanker Jen Vermeulen scored two more tries by the end of the game, and Yoli one more. The impressive win was down to rapid offloads from tackles, fast hands and strong support within the team.

The game included a return to the pitch for captain Caroline Spence, who unleashed 22 months of pent up aggression after recovering from a knee injury. The team is ecstatic to have her back playing number 8.
