Macclesfield moved six points clear at the top of the SSE National Two North table after a 19-16 victory away to their closest rivals Stourbridge. Winger Eddie Stobart was the star of the show for the Blues with a try either side of the interval.

Three other games were settled by a single score or less, two of them by just two points. James Cameron's 79th-minute penalty proved decisive as Hull edged out Sheffield Tigers 18-16 at Dore Moor, while Sedgley Park became only the second side to beat Darlington Mowden after withstanding a late fightback from the north east high flyers. Meanwhile, Harrogate had to be content with the consolation of a losing bonus point from their trip to Merseyside after losing 24-17 to Caldy. Tight-head prop Derek Salisbury bagged a couple of early tries for Caldy, who are four points clear of the bottom three.

The Birmingham & Solihull v Dudley Kingswinford clash was the most one-sided match of the weekend by some distant. The rampant Bees ran in 11 tries against their Midlands rivals, who remain rooted to the bottom of the division after losing all 10 of their league games. Backs Rod Petty and Ashley Elvers and No.8 Robert Connelly all scored a brace of tries apiece.

A superb first-half performance saw Chester ease to a 32-10 home win over Luctonians. Last season's Three North champions flew out of the blocks to lead 27-0 at the break. Flanker Mike Craven scored a try either side of half-time to help his side up to sixth. Preston Grasshoppers are one place above them in the table following a 22-5 win against Bromsgrove at Lightfoot Green.

Leicester Lions were awarded two penalty tries as fellow mid-table outfit Otley were beaten 21-9 in the Midlands.
