Teams of 4 including many first-timers, 3×1 hour training sessions in the weeks up to the event and ONLY £35 per person

Entry Deadline: Friday 1st June

Training begins: Monday 8th June and finishes Friday 9th July

Stratford’s Fun Regatta really is all about fun, right through from the 3, one-hour training sessions to the end of a packed day of head-to-head racing. You don’t have to big, fit or strong to do well in this event, or have any idea of one end of a boat from the other; we’ll provide you with all the equipment and instruction, to win you just need good teamwork and timing.

However, never was the phrase “It isn’t the winning that counts, but the taking part” more apt! This event is aimed at people who are completely new to rowing who either want to have a go for a laugh, be sponsored for a good cause or who gave up the sport, donkeys years ago and want to prove to their friends that they’ve not lost it. (For full details of who can enter which category, please see the ‘Rules of Entry’.)

It’s also a great day out for spectators with exciting races every few minutes and plenty of thrills and spills. The race course runs along the theatre from the ferry and races can be viewed from both banks, either by sitting on a blanket on the Recreation Ground or on a bench outside the world-famous theatre with a G&T.

If you fancy a break from watching men dressed as women racing against Smurfs you could sample one of our scrumptious burgers, or bacon or sausage baps from the BBQ (we of course offer just as tasty vegetarian options) or have a quintessentially English cup of tea and a piece of cake in the tea tent or perhaps a refreshing pint or glass of Pimm’s from the bar.

If you’re feeling lucky or energetic you could try your hand at one of our games. We have sedentary competitions like ‘Water to Wine’ where you can win a bottle of vino . For the more competitive there are ergo competitions for all ages where you can win a traditional rowing medal.

If you are interested in taking part in this year’s event or would like to come and watch, here are some key dates for your diary:

To enter you must send your entry fee and completed entry form to: Fun Regatta Entry, 49 Amherst Road, Kenilworth, CV8  1AG. This must be received by the 31st May. Entry fees are non-refundable, see ‘Rules of Entry’ for more details.

Training sessions are held in the evening on weeknights, session 1 from 6.30-7.30 and session 2 from 7.45-8.45. Weekend training is by agreement with the coach only.

In the event of un-rowable conditions on Race Day, races will be held on land on rowing machines on rails.
