Empowering Coaching


It is not only about how coaches can effect players but it is about empowering you as a coach - giving you strategies to support your development and that of the players you are working with.

This course is aimed at coaches delivering on a sport's talent development pathway (i.e., county/regional squads) and Level 3 or working towards Level 3 courses. 


Speaker: Professor Joan Duda

Joan Duda is a Professor of Sport and Exercice in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Birmingham.

Internationally known for her expertise on motivational processes and determinants of adherence and optimal functioning within physical and performance-related activities such as sport, exercise and research background in the development of psychological skills in sport and other performance domains. 


Professor Duda has been a mental skills consultant for over 25 years, working with athletes, coaches and parents involved in a variety of sports at different competitive levels. She is certified as a Consultant by the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and listed on the US Olympic Registry.

She was the sport psychology consultant for the USA Gymnastics Women's Olympic team that won the gold medal in the Atlanta 1996 Games.

At the University of Birmingham, she has worked with TASS and USB sport-scholars and also offers consultation with other elite athletes and coaches with respect to performance excellence and motivational issues.
