Into the penultimate Sunday with a further 3 matches of a long but successful season.

The Premier Division tie played today was a battle for third place and Richard Tyler’s solitary goal for Thomas Brothers saw them leapfrog Belbroughton Athletic (who have had a difficult end to the season) and secure third place in their first crack at the Premier, fully justifying their place in the top flight. Well done to Nick and Matt and we hope they have enjoyed their first season with us.

All eyes were on Division 2 though and the good news is that we have a final day showdown for the title! This showdown occurs after both title pretenders, Chaddesley Corbett and BGIS won their respective home games, meaning it truly is ‘winner takes all’ in next Sunday's match at Chaddesley Sports Ground. Chaddesley did the double over Bromsgrove United this morning, with a 7-4 victory after beating Suki Purewal’s team 4-0 the week before. Goals from Richard Ash, Damian Ash, Matt Phipps, Matt Fludgate, Adam Simpson and a brace from ‘Viking Beard’ (Dan Mcrozkowski) did the job. Unfortunately for Bromsgrove this was their last game of the season and with their top scorer Bradley Bullimore failing to get on the scoresheet, he does not overtake BGIS’s master marksmen Dom Strevens in the race for the division’s golden boot. Bromsgrove’s goals came courtesy of some horror goalkeeping by Chadds famous netminder Chris Crook, which included a ball rolling underneath his leg and a ball bouncing into the net after hitting the post and rebounding onto him; From Chadds’s point of view, they will be glad this is out of Chris’s system before next week! This result also means Sporting Rednal finish third in the table and Bromsgrove United fourth.

BGIS’s task was rather more straight forward as they thrashed hapless AFC Millfields 13-0 in a ‘men against boys’ match. Full credit to AFC Millfields for battling on in the game and for actually completing the season as they had a lot of mid-season turmoil which left them hanging by a thread, but BGIS dominated this match from the start with a comprehensive display which saw them 5-0 up at the break. Dan Lawrence was on fire today netting four, with Carl Martin also netting a hat-trick, further braces from the veteran Marcus George, combative midfielder Adam Neason and returning striker Colin Tandy back from his honeymoon (Tandy also assisted a large number of the goals). This result followed hot on the heels of BGIS putting Awkies Allstars to the sword by an 8-1 scoreline in midweek; Already behind early on from two fine Dom Strevens finishes, Awkies made matters all the worse when Jamie Brennan got himself needlessly sent off after disputing a first half penalty award (second yellow card) and from then on, they were a well beaten side for all Jason Gibbons got a very late consolation. Dan Lawrence got a hat-trick in this one as well. It seems that when these BGIS strikers go on a scoring streak, you can’t stop them. It will be an interesting week on the tactics board for Chadds coaching staff of Richard Ash and Matthew Fludgate!

So just the one game to go before the 2014/15 season concludes – We will have a reporter or two present at the match next week so check back here next Sunday evening for the full match report and to find out who wins Division 2 – That’s of course if you are not making the journey to Longmore Farm yourself to watch!
