Just the 3 matches and 1 friendly game played today as we reached the penultimate week of the season.
Only one place to start today and that's in Division 3 where Toby Jug Athletic finally clinched the Division 3 title with a 2-0 home win over Laburnum. Toby, who have had one of the most successful seasons ever, can now relax for their final week's match against runners up Hizza United knowing the job is already done. The first half of their game today was a really entertaining affair but the match remained goalless, Laburnum skipper Neil Seager defending like a lion. Into the second half and the breakthrough came around the 60 minute mark, when JJ Evans threaded the ball through to Connor Collins, one of the signings of the season, who did what he does best and put the ball in the back of the net. Tom May then hit the bar for Laburnum as the Toby keeper was chipped, when Jay Nickless needlessly gave the ball away. In the dying embers of the game, Nickless provided the assist for Karl Evans to head home on his birthday and to start the champagne corks popping on Silver Street. Toby will head into their new division next season under the new name of Sporting Rednal FC, it will be a shame to see the name 'Toby Jug' go as it is a legendary twang to it. Many congratulations to Jay Nickless and all his team on their success this season and we are sure the celebrations will be continuing long into the night!
In the Premier Division, Vic Barnt Green bought down the curtains on another wonderful campaign for them as they beat Rubery Oak 3-0. Goals from Shaun May, Richard Bishop and Dan Wilkes (i.e the usual suspects!) eased them home and ensured they haven't lost a league game this season, their only blip on a perfect 100% win record being a draw with Rubery Social Allstars where they were leading 4-0! A 9 point title lead does say everything about their dominance this season and Vic are once again setting the bar higher and higher for everyone to have a stab at.
In Division 2, Washford Lions and Bromsgrove United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw as Bromsgrove played their last game this season, with Washford having one more to go next Sunday. Bromsgrove took the lead through top scorer and golden boot winner Danny Lawrence, with Matt Rowland equalising midway through the second half.
And in a friendly this afternoon, Division 1 Stoke Sporting beat Division 3 Stoke Prior by a 7-3 scoreline. Dave Penn with a brace for Stoke the pick of the goalscorers.
