The welcome return of warm and sunny conditions brought fickle light winds for the race crews at Arden Sailing Club, Defford on Sunday.
Nine boats took to the water competing for places in the ongoing Pursuit series (9th stage), Bert Thurlow trophy (7th stage) and the Comet Cup (7th stage).
Succeeding through it all starting first and maintaining that position to the end was the Heron of David Bryden, hotly pursued by the Comet of Keith Stevens making way impressively through the rest of the fleet to gain a second place. Third place went to the Enterprise of Stuart Steven.
After a fly-by from the Red Arrows, some say in celebration of another Heron victory, the scene was set for the second race of the afternoon where the fleet is divided into the slightly quicker boats competing for the seventh of the Burt Thurlow series and the rest for the hotly contested Commodore series.
The already light winds weakened further to challenge the helms knowledge of sailing and of the river itself with all its eddies and currants. After four halting laps the final positions were first, the Solo of Ralph Evans, in second place the Enterprise of Stuart Steven and third place the Laser of Emma Watson in the Burt Thurlow.
The Commodore finished thus, in first place David Bryden, followed by the Comets of second Keith Hodges , third Keith Stevens, fourth Tricia Wood and fifth Rachael Evans.
