WHITCHURCH lock Ollie Bates was suspended for 26 weeks when he appeared before a Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel last night.

Bates pleaded not guilty to striking an opponent contrary to Law 10.4(a) during the Midlands One West match against Lichfield on November 23 last year but he was found guilty by the panel.

Bates, who was cited by Lichfield, was suspended from January 20 to May 26 and again from August 11 to October 6 to take into account the close season. He will be free to resume playing on October 7.

The hearing was held at the Bromsgrove Holiday Inn hotel before a panel comprised of Daniel White (chairman), Shaun Perry and Nigel Stelling.
