Worcester United Ladies knocked out Coventry Ladies Development in the West Midlands League Cup after a hard fought battle away at the Sphinx stadium.
United took an early lead after just 2 minutues with a great run from the pacey April Newman beating two players before crossing to the feet of Lauren Buswell to slot home.
After a positive start from United Coventry fought back to level 1 - 1, the lead only lasted 5 minutes before Uniteds Lucy Edwards drove a powerful shot from inside the box to put her team infront again. Shortly before half time Karli Smith got her second goal in two games since joining Worcester from Malvern Town with a superb strike from 25 yards. T
he game was keenly contested in the second half both teams having periods of dominance. United gave away a second half penalty that Coventry converted to ensure a nail biting final 15 mins of the game.
Worcester United manager Ryan O'Connor added "We displayed all the qualities needed against a physically tough challenge and a very good Coventry team, this makes it two wins from our first two games so we are delighted with our start.
Our youth team also played Coventry at the weekend and managed to secure a 1 - 1 draw, its really positive for Ladies football in Worcester, we had some ground to make up on the Coventry teams but we now feel we are more than competing against them".
