Under 15s

Banbury Under 15s travelled to Chinnor on Sunday for their first league fixture of the new year. In cold, windy, rainy conditions, Banbury conceded two early scores. After this opening 10 minutes, Banbury got into the game in what was for the remainder of the match quite an even contest. However, trailing by one try at the interval, Banbury’s determination saw them camped in Chinnor’s half for much of the remainder of the match and adding two unanswered tries. The final score was Chinnor 19 – 26 Banbury. Banbury’s try scorers were George Capel, Kieran Capell, Oscar Gudge, Jacob Manning, with Jacob Manning adding 3 conversions.

Under 14s

Banbury Under 14s hosted a strong Leamington side on Sunday in what can only be described as atrocious conditions.

Initially it looked as if the visitors would make the most of the conditions, with a strong performance in the first few minutes seeing them dominate possession and keep the ball in the Banbury half. A slipped ball and scrum later, however, saw the game change and lead to the first of five Banbury tries with Thomas Wood storming over the line for the first of his two tries, converted by Sam Sherpa-Moore. Another try by Isaac Seiger put Banbury in the driving seat but Leamington responded with a try, strong wind against the kicker proving too much for a conversion. Despite heavy rain and strong winds, the two teams continues to battle it out on an increasingly slippery pitch, the final score of 31 to 12 in Banbury’s favour sealing a hard fought game of top notch rugby. Other Banbury try scorers were Tom McDonald and Archie Mallock, Sam Sherpa-Moore converting twice more despite the conditions.

Mini Rugby

Under 11s

Banbury Under U11A drew 15 all with Oxford on Sunday with tries from Tsering Sherpa-Moore, Harvey Jones and Olie Whiting. Banbury Under 11B conceded 3 quick tries, then provided resilient effort before running out of steam to concede a further 3 to end up losing 30-0. A hard fought encounter in a third game saw Owen Micheal go over early, but after drawing the first half, the mixed side conceded a further 3 tries to end up losing 20-5.

Under 10s

Banbury Under 10s beat Oxford 0-45 on Sunday.

Driving rain and water logged pitches meant nothing to Banbury! Oxford struggled to gain any space towards the Banbury try line, whilst in contrast Oxford were overrun by relentless and assertive attacks. Banbury’s tries were scored by Callum Davies (3 tries), Callum Brotherhood (2), Jacob Hancock (2), Thomas Evans and Ben Crowther. Thomas Evans deserved recognition for breaking every run the Oxford backs made.

Under 8s

Banbury Under 8s travelled with 12 players to Oxford on Sunday and were plucky and unfazed by the weather conditions.

Four games in total were played with Banbury coming out on top winning two games, drawing one and losing the other. Stand-out performances came from Aidan Walker who ran in several good tries and Thea Moore for her excellent support play.
