The first game of the season saw a nervous new team step out onto the pitch the face the newly formed Kingsbury and Coleshill Ladies.

It took at least 10 minutes for the game to settle in and for the nerves to die down. Thanks to a few decent passes of the ball between the back four and midfield the chances started to appear from the wings for Warwick. Some great crosses from the right and left wings by Rhian and Zoe fed into the two forwards, Sophie and Beth, provided some great opportunities.

Kingsbury battled their way through midfield and attempted a few long balls, but Warwick’s goal keeper Abi was always quick of the mark and first to the ball.

Central defenders Molly and Emily worked well together and prevented Kingsbury’s number 8 every chance on goal, by quickly getting the ball out of the box or neatly leading the ball into Abi’s hands.

Kingsbury and Coleshill showed a lot of strength and determination, but couldn’t manage to muscle Chloe of the ball, who scored the first goal! Kingsbury and Coleshill 0-1 Warwick.

From here on out Warwick started to settle down and play some good football and it wasn’t long before Beth managed to skip past Kinbury’s goal keeper and dink the ball in for a goal. Kingsbury 0-2 Warwick.

Before half time Sophie Wright had a few more chances, but couldn’t squeeze any past the Kingbury defence who had battened down the hatches.

The break at half time was needed as the heat began to rise and players were begging to struggle in the September sun. Great time to make a few changes and take on board some water.

The second half saw Kazz and Zoe come off for Jenny and Sarah to make their Warwick Debuts.

The switching ends left Warwick exposed as Abi was blinded by the sun. Kingburys took advantage of this and although Abi managed to get her fingers to the ball, Kingsbury scored from a lob from the right wing. Kingbsury 1-2 Warwick. Luckily after this one spectator kindly lent her his cap.

From the restart, Warwick still pushed forward and a cross from Rhian led to the Kingbury’s defenced fumbling it into the goal. Kingbury 1-3 Warwick.

Kingsbury came back stronger after this and used their strength against Warwick to try and get another goal back for themselves. They had a good three or four chances, but couldn’t get it past our keeper Abi who continued to stop anything from getting past her.

It wasn’t long until Warwick were on the push again and with another fantastic cross form Beth fell to the feet of unmarked Lauren who controlled the ball well and went for the shot. The keeper managed to get her fingers to the ball, but couldn’t prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net! Kingsbury 1-4 Warwick.

Two last minute changes for Warwick saw Zoe come on for Beth, and a debut for Charlotte who replaced resent goal scorer Laruen.

Ten minutes left of the game and Kingsbury looked like the stronger of the two teams, but the temperatures seemed to sapped the energy out of both teams.
