Week five of the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League, covering the South Warwickshire area and parts of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, saw Stratford-on-Avon open up a three point lead at the top with 16 points following a good 3-1 win over fourth placed Ardencote Manor (11 points).  Evesham lost ground with yet another 2-2 draw, this time to equal fifth Alcester (8).  Studley A took advantage to move equal second on 13 points with a 3-1 away victory over equal fifth placed Henley-in-Arden (8).  Finally, the bottom two Littleton (6) and Studley B (5) shared the honours in a 2-2 draw.

Stratford completed their win leading 3-0 before slipping up on the final rubber.  Their top pair Callum Bailey & Adam Moran beat Ben Summers & Jack Smith (Ardencote) 6-2, 6-1 and then beat Richard Butler & Phil Silk (Ardencote) 6-2, 6-2.  Stratford skipper Tim Page with regular partner Simon West beat Butler & Silk 6-2, 6-2, but lost after two tie-break sets to Summers & Smith 6-7, 6-7.

After a great start to the season Evesham seemed to be making a habit of drawing matches like this one.  Andy Crowther & Jack Crossley (Evesham) made heavy weather of beating Tim Kenneally & Alex Woodbridge (Alcester) 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) in the closest of Championship tie-break third set finishes.  They then beat Stewart Beach & Gareth Price (Alcester) 6-4, 6-1.  Chris Francis & Ray Foster-Morison (Evesham) lost to Beach & Price   4-6, 4-6, and lost to Kenneally & Crossley only after another epic battle 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (11-13).

Studley A made good ground with this 3-1 result over Henley.  Brett McKay & Marcus Tate (Henley) just lost to Martin Richards & John Fitton (Studley A) 6-4, 2-6, 0-1 (8-10).  However they recovered to beat Mark Willmore & Mark Eftichou (Studley A) 7-5, 7-6.  Matthew Williams & Max Retallack (Henley) lost to Willmore & Eftichou 4-6, 6-7, and then lost to Richards & Fitton 1-6, 4-6.

Finally, in the Premier Division the bottom two sides shared the points in a 2-2 draw.  Dave Rudge & Sean Witheford (Littleton) bt Chris McGregor & James Fitton (Studley B) 6-3, 6-3, and then beat Dave Douglas & Ollie Smith (Studley B) 6-2, 6-2.  Andrew Reynolds & Simon Blewitt (Littleton) lost to Douglas & Smith 6-2, 5-7, 0-1 (8-10), and lost to McGregor & Fitton 4-6, 3-6.

In Division One Moreton-in-Marsh keep a four point gap at the top with 14 points despite having no match this week.  This is thanks to previously second placed Claverdon (9 points) who dropped two places to fourth after being defeated 3-1 by Pershore (10).  The latter moved to equal second with this result.  Whitnash jumped into equal second spot to join Pershore following their 4-0 drubbing of bottom team Aston Cantlow (2).  Fifth team Snitterfield with 8 points drew 2-2 with sixth placed Inkberrow (6).

A change occurred at the top of Division Two when Ardencote Manor B played two matches in a week.  First they beat fifth placed FISSC (7 points) 4-0 and then in a re-arranged match from earlier they drew 2-2 with placed Stratford B.  This gave Ardencote B a total of 17 points, one more than HDA Redditch A team who despite beating joint bottom side Chipping Campden A 4-0 dropped to second.  Alcester B swapped places with Stratford B to go third when they beat sixth placed Inkberrow B (5) 4-0 giving them 13 points to Stratford B’s 12.  Stratford B in their regular fixture celebrated a 3-1 victory over joint bottom Shipston-on-Stour A (4 points).

Division Three saw Snitterfield B join Claverdon B and Studley C at the top with 14 points.  This was because Snitterfield B managed a resounding 4-0 away win at sixth placed Alcester C (6 points) while both Claverdon B and Studley C were held to 2-2 draws.  Claverdon were held by fifth placed Ilmington (9) and Studley C by fourth placed Henley B (12).  After Chipping Campden B beat Wildmoor Spa A 3-1 they both share bottom place with three points apiece.

In Division Four Claverdon C climbed back to share top spot with Redditch side HDA B on 16 points each following a 4-0 Claverdon C victory over bottom team Chipping Campden C (2 points).  For their part HDA B retained their position by beating equal sixth placed Moreton-in-Marsh B (7 points) 3-1.  Pershore (12) retain third place thanks to a 3-1 home win over lowly  Littleton B (7), but are joined in third by Inkberrow C who celebrated a straight sets 4-0 thumping of fifth placed Bidford-on-Avon A (8 points).

Finally, Division Five leaders Warwick, retained their lead but found it cut to a solitary point.  This was because while Warwick managed only a 3-1 win over fifth placed Moreton-in-Marsh C (9 points), second placed HDA Redditch C went one better recording a 4-0 victory over sixth placed Inkberrow D (8).  Equal third placed teams Wildmoor B and Bidford B, both on 10 points, drew 2-2 with each other and, in the only other fixture, the bottom two sides Evesham B (5) and Shipston B (2) drew with each other 2-2.
