On Sunday 11th September, Wellesbourne Ladies Touch Rugby Club hosted their home tournament at the Home Guard Club welcoming 8 clubs from across the Midlands in the North East League. Wellesbourne had a great start to the day with a 3-0 win against Rugby St Andrews, with 2 tries from Captain Claire Davis and 1 from Natasha Rose, all scored in the first half.
Bourne played Old Laurentians next and won by a whopping 5-0. Tries scored were from Becky Hart, Lorna Wale and Katherine Holian in the first half with further tries from Davis and Rose in the second half. With two wins under their belt, Bourne were top of their pool which placed them into the second leg winner’s pool group in the afternoon.
The first match was tough against local rivals Stratford-upon-Avon. Bourne came out on top with a close 3-2 victory with scores from Davis, Wale & Holian. Bourne went on to play Redditch, who were also on form, for 1st & 2nd place. A difficult defensive game for both however some fast thinking from Wale and an awesome cut from Rose resulted in her scoring the tournament winner.
The team would like to thank their coaches Norman Malins, Ricky Alford and Dave Rooney and all their helpers and supporters on the day for making it a huge success. Training is open to ladies aged 13 years and over at the Home Guard Club in Tiddington every Thursday from 7pm-9pm. All newcomers welcome!
