Twelve year-old Josie Symons from Marlborough, Wiltshire has been recognised as the winner of the NAF shining star award for April 2015. The award recognises those British Showjumping members that have shown good development within their Junior Academy.

Josie is a member of the Wiltshire Junior Academy and she was nominated for the award by Lead Coach Nicola Florence who has this to say about her nominee “First and foremost, Josie is a delightful young lady at all times, to her parents, friends and other competitors. At the coaching sessions she attends, she is always seen to have a broad smile on her face the whole time and she truly loves her ponies and the sport of showjumping.

“Starting to ride at the age of 3 and when she was 9 years-old she decided that she wanted to concentrate on showjumping and joined British Showjumping in January 2012, that Christmas she received her first showjumping pony Euro Magic (Minnie) and in their first year together they qualified for both the championship finals for both Tiny Tots and Stepping Stones..

“Her riding ability is without doubt and she has already completed her NAF performance 1* and 2* and is working hard to achieve her 3*. She aims to complete the programme, which I am sure she will attain with her great work ethic, attention to detail and huge enthusiasm for her jumping and the care and training of her ponies.”

“I became a member of the Junior Academy roughly a year ago to improve my riding skills and I knew that the training available to me would help me to do this” commented Josie.  “I have also thoroughly enjoyed working through the NAF 5* Performance programme.

This year sadly is my final year on Minnie, but we have had a great year so far after we finished second in the 128cm Grand Prix recently at Pony of the Year Show.”

As part of her winner’s prize, Josie will receive some NAF equine supplements to use alongside the products she currently uses which include Oestress for the nutritional support of the hormonal system in mares and their calming supplement Magic.

Griselda Handy, Brand Manager for NAF, commented “Josie has had many fabulous results which have come about from hard work and a great passion for her showjumping, making her a perfect recipient for the NAF Shining Star Award. We look forward to hearing from Josie in the future.”
