Old Leamingtonians Ladies RFC kicked off their league season this weekend, losing 29-10 at home to newly promoted Bletchley Ladies.

Old Leams started strongly, and it took just seven minutes to get the first points on the board. The ball came out to the backs and went wide to full back Tasha Barnes, who put the ball over the line. Bletchley however were quick to react, and their centre scored their first try of the day, putting the score at 5 -5.

Although Old Leams had some great passages of play, nothing was quite working for them, and Bletchley scored once more and converted, taking them into a 12-5 lead. It soon became apparent why Bletchley had not lost any of their matches last season, when they intercepted and scored to take the score to 17 - 5 going into half time.

Bletchley looked equally bright after the break, scoring shortly after the restart.  At 24-5 Old Leams could have given up, but they kept fighting hard to stop Bletchley’s attack, with some particularly fantastic tackles from ‘back of the match’ and brand new player Shannon Lynch.

Some great play from Old Leams was rewarded with another try for Tasha Barnes, and it looked like the comeback was on. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, with Bletchley sneaking in one more try before the end to finish the game at 29-10.
