Brocton began at a high tempo and Josh D Wilson put in a short pass to Ben Farrall in the visitor’s first move, with Farrall looking to find Paul McMahon, who had made a smart dart into the box. The pass was well cut out, but Farrall collected the ball but shot wide of the mark. Another chance soon fell to McMahon from a good ball in from Matt Hardiman, wide on the left, but another well timed tackle as he shot sent McMahon’s effort wide.

With pace on both flanks of their own, Casuals soon set up a break of their own and Brocton breathed a sigh of relief as a deep cross form the right by Brad Lewis went out of play beyond the goal. Another cross come shot from the same source brought a good save from Callum Barrett in Casuals’ next sortie.

On the half hour Dan Lomas picked out the pass of the match to date finding Hardiman, who whipped the ball into McMahon. On this occasion McMahon got off a right foot shot which was blocked and then another with his left, again  blocked as Casuals defended in numbers.

A free kick at the other end saw Daniel Forward bring a save from Barrett and Matt Skinner was needed to put the ball wide as Lewis Cooper looked set to take advantage from the rebound. The corner almost crept in at the near post as it was deflected, but once again it was Barrett to the rescue.

Brocton broke once more and Hardiman put in a diving header at goal when Kenny Devoir,   released from his sterling efforts at right back, surged forward to deliver the perfect cross. The chance was saved by Liam Stanton, but he was unable to prevent Brocton taking the lead moments later when another Devoir, Hardiman collaboration saw a defence splitting pass from   Devoir and a hard, low shot in from Hardiman.

There was no let up in the early pace in the second half and Lewis had a chance saved by Barrett almost from the kick off. Then Josh D Wilson combined with Hardiman again to put McMahon in good position. Stanton produced a good save and his team survived a session of head tennis across their box, with Brocton unable to get a sight of goal.

Jay Holcroft and Daryl Westwood exchanged a series of passes then as they cut through the heart of Brocton’s midfield and defence. Westwood missed the target in what would have been a fine goal, but their following run beyond the Brocton defence resulted in a penalty as Matt Dockerty caught Westwood before the ball in a desperate tackle. Hughes hit his penalty shot true enough but Barrett pulled off a great save. Ben Farrall protested too much and received his marching orders with 30 minutes still to play.

Brocton then had a penalty of their own as McMahon was brought down in the box with Casuals protesting that decision. Sean Kinsella scored. Casuals roared back and Matt Skinner cleared almost from his line, but the pressure told as Cooper’s cross hit the far post and went in. With seconds to got to the final whistle Casuals scored the winner through sheer determination in Brocton’s area.
