Worcester Wolves made it three wins from three pre-season outings as they finalised preparations for this Friday’s opening of the British Basketball League.

Wolves’ hat-trick of victories came in an 88-75 defeat of Bristol Flyers at the University of Worcester Arena on Monday, following up weekend wins in Bristol and against Sheffield Sharks.

An efficient first quarter ended on a close-range buzzer-beater from forward Jermel Kennedy, leading to a 25-17 home advantage. The same player showed his versatility by slotting home a three-pointer as the next period commenced.

Fellow forwards Alex Navajas and Trevor Setty also connected from afar to help widen the lead to 49-33 by half-time.

An 11-2 burst to begin the second half took matters to 60-35, giving Head Coach Paul James the luxury of distributing court-time across his squad. Andrew Bachman was one player who particularly took advantage of his extra minutes to slot in a useful eight points as Wolves eased to the win.

Navajas led the scoring with 23 points, followed by Kennedy with 17 and point-guard Marek Klassen on 15. Setty completed the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

“It was encouraging that we again had a nice spread of contributions today,” stated James.

“It might only be pre-season, but we’ve now won three from three. Winning becomes a habit.”

Worcester’s new British Basketball League campaign begins this Friday, 23 September (tip off 7.30) when Cheshire Phoenix visit the city.

James was pleased to see a healthy number of spectators for each friendly and is now hoping for even more support at the season-opener, saying: “We’ve had some great crowds at the Arena. Another good turnout on Friday will certainly help the players go for the win.”
